With only 4 and a half days left of school, many of us are just waiting for that last bell to ring on Friday that signals us to our freedom, and the long waited summer. With up coming events like finals and annual signing the next few days are going to fly by like a breeze in the park. If you are one of the people who is going to do nothing, and uses one of these two quotes “I’m bored” or “there is nothing to do” often, then get up and do something. Here are a few of the things that you have to look forward to this summer:
Floating the Payette River and Jumping off of Plaza Bridge- If you live in Emmett, Idaho and you have never floated the river, it is a must. All you need are some tire tubes and some sun block, just watch out for that waterfall in the middle, it can be a little scary when the water is low! Personally I have never jumped off of Plaza Bridge but someday I’ll gain the courage needed to do it..
Sleeping in till one in the Afternoon- After having to get up early for the last nine months this is a very good time to catch up on any needed sleep. Whether it is sleeping in for 20 extra minutes or an hour I am sure we can all agree that they feel the same when your sleep deprived.
Swimming, Boating,Wakeboarding, Jet Skiing or Water Skiing- These five things all have one thing in common: water. When the weather gets into the 90’s a nice little dip in the water is always nice. We are very lucky because we live so close to the Black Canyon Dam. This recreational area has many advantages such as: the various parks, barbeque pits, docks, beaches, volleyball courts and of course the dam itself. If you can not make it out to the dam to cool off another local place is the Emmett City Pool. The pool is outdoors and has a slide, a big pool and then a kiddy pool. You can also get involve in such things as swim team, water aerobics, and/or lap swims.
Cherry Festival- The Cherry Festival has many things to offer, whether it is the Cherry Pie eating/baking contest or the various booths, there is something for just about everyone. My favorite thing every year is the rides and the parade. Every year they have the same rides but for some reason every year I end up having fun: “The Zipper”, “Coma Cosi”, and “Ali Babba” never get old. The parade has a new theme every year and every once in awhile you’ll be lucky and get there early enough to sit up front.
Cruise Night- So when I first moved to Emmett this was not one of my favorite things. As I have gotten older I have started to take an interest in it. Being able to hang out with friends and driving around in fancy cars are my favorite part of the night.
The last thing that I love to do over the summer is spend much needed family time. Many of us get so busy during the school year that we often neglect some of those around us that love us the most. By doing something as simple as showing that you care can help tighten these bonds.
Some of our fellow students are getting ready for college, while others are getting ready for those early morning sports practices. Some will try and get a summer job and others are going to sit around and do next to nothing all day, everyday for the next three months but next time you have nothing to do remember the Emmett is full of activities.
